Workshops and Training

PACFA endorsed supervisor training and professional development, grounded in reflective practice and a deep commitment to the growth of the counselling and psychotherapy professions.

A period of regeneration

The professional development workshops and training programs I offer have been on a period of rest and renewal since 2023, following the passing of my dear colleague and co-facilitator, Jo Ablett.

Jo and I developed and delivered PACFA endorsed Professional Development workshops for Counselling Supervisors from 2016. In 2019, together we co-created the SVS Supervisor Training Program, a comprehensive, relationship-centred program for counsellors and psychotherapists seeking to add supervision to their practice.

Jo's contribution to the field of supervision in Australia was profound, and her passing has left both a deep personal loss and a meaningful professional legacy. I have taken time to honour that loss, to rest and to reflect on how best to carry this work forward in a way that honours what we built together.

I am now in the process of revitalising the SVS Supervisor Training Program for 2026, with a renewed sense of purpose and a deep appreciation for the importance of this work.

The SVS Supervisor Training Program

The SVS Supervisor Training Program was developed with the conviction that effective supervision requires more than technical knowledge. It requires the same qualities that make for effective therapy: the capacity for genuine relationship, deep listening, and compassionate presence.

The program is grounded in a person-centred, relational approach to supervision, drawing on attachment theory, reflective practice and Relational Neuroscience research. It is designed for counsellors and psychotherapists who wish to develop their capacity to support and guide other practitioners through the challenges and rewards of clinical practice.

On successful completion of the program, participants will be equipped to provide supervision that is ethical, reflective and genuinely supportive of both supervisee wellbeing and client care.

“The supervisor who has walked the path themselves, who knows the weight of the work and the gift of being truly heard, brings something irreplaceable to the supervisory relationship.”

What the training program covers

Full details will be confirmed when registration opens for 2026. The program is expected to include the following areas.

Foundations of clinical supervision: models, frameworks and ethical responsibilities

The supervisory relationship: attachment, alliance and the parallel process

Reflective practice and the use of self in supervision

Supporting supervisees who work with trauma, grief and complex presentations

Group supervision: theory, structure and facilitation

PACFA supervision standards, documentation and professional accountability

PACFA endorsed training

The SVS Supervisor Training Program has been developed in accordance with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) standards and is intended to meet PACFA endorsement criteria for supervisor training.

Participants who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and will have met the training requirements for supervisor accreditation with PACFA and equivalent bodies.
